Anna posted a short piece on matthias replacing judas in acts after Jesus has left them and it reminded me of something I wanted to write about.
The choosing of Matthias is a perfect example of doing things the wrong way.
Jesus told the disciples to wait a few days for the Holy Spirit to come. They couldn’t help but try to fulfill scripture by their own hands and replace Judas with their own choice. Sure, they cast lots between two people, but they really thought it had to be one of those two men.
Did you ever hear Matthias mentioned again after that? Do you think God might have had another man in mind for a replacement, possibly a guy from Tarsus?
Silly disciples. It’s nice that they had blunders and ridiculous questions that we can learn from. If God says wait, wait. He’s got a better plan up His almighty sleeve than you can pull out of your hat.
