A Paper Tiger

this is my brother with our first dog Cody (well, second technically but the first one was a stray and he left us shortly after coming to us).

since my parents split and nobody lived in a place that could have a dog at the time, Cody has been at my aunts in kalamazoo.

he was getting up there in dog-age, about 12 years our time. sometime in the last day though he escaped from confinement (he was always good at that) and got hit by a car and had to be put down. i can imagine a smile on his face though before that incident, the freedom of a run with the wind in his face.

i’ve got three dogs of my own now, but i feel for my brother because he was still really attached to Cody.

He was a good dog. he’d scramble off of the furniture when you came into the room because he knew he wasn’t supposed to be on it. he’d wander outside of the yard while outside and would most of the time come back without you having to yell too much. if you didn’t hold his leash on a walk, he’d pick it up and walk himself.

dogs are so hard to lose. they love you unfailingly. they don’t judge you for anything. they are always happy to see you. they ask for very little. they seem so innocent. and it’s so sad to see something with those qualities die. especially when it was your something.

at least i know all dogs go to heaven. i did see the movie and part of the sequel, so i know.
